ClearToSpend Dashboard showing $4,632 left to spend, with an overdue electric bill flagged red

Sound familiar?

"I get paid Friday, but I have no idea what's safe to spend today."

"A $139 annual renewal just hit my card. I forgot it existed."

"My banking app tells me what I spent. It never warns me what's about to come out."

"Every budgeting tool I try wants my bank login and a monthly fee — then turns into a chore I abandon."

Your bank balance isn't the problem.
The problem is everything that hasn't come out of it yet.

One number answers the only question that matters day to day

How much money do I have left to spend before my next paycheck?

ClearToSpend is a forward-looking cash flow template for Google Sheets. Open the Dashboard and you get one big number — your balance, minus every bill, savings transfer, and planned expense still coming out before payday, plus any pay landing before then.

Under it: every upcoming charge in date order, with anything overdue pinned red and marked LATE until you deal with it.

Bank-sync apps show you yesterday. This shows you tomorrow.

  1. 1
Set it up once — your balance, your bills, your paychecks. About 30 minutes.
  2. 2
Check in whenever you want — daily, before a purchase, when a bill clears. Update your balance, date the bills you've paid, read your number.
  3. 3
Spend with a clear conscience. The number on the Dashboard is already safe — everything still owed before payday is subtracted.

Built for how money actually works

No formulas to write. Type only in the amber cells; the engine does the rest.

6-Month Forecast

See trouble months before it arrives

A payday-by-payday cascade of your balance through the next 6 months — every paycheck in, every bill out. The math runs all the way forward so tight stretches are visible weeks ahead.

There's one number worth watching above everything else:

Lowest projected balance — the lowest your balance will get in the next 6 months, and exactly when. If a tight month is coming, you'll see it long before it happens, while there's still time to do something about it.

Auto-Renew Heads-Up

No more surprise renewals

Your yearly and quarterly bills surface on the Forecast before they charge. The $139 renewal you forgot about? You'll see it coming weeks out — not the morning your balance takes an unexplained hit.

This is the feature that pays for the template the first time it fires.

Pay-Yourself-First Savings

Saving stops being whatever's left over

Savings buckets appear on the Dashboard like bills you owe yourself — a % of income or a fixed amount per paycheck. They're subtracted from your LEFT TO SPEND number before you spend, not after.

Two incomes, different schedules? Mixed pay frequencies merge into one clean payday timeline, with weekend paydays shifting to Friday — just like your employer does.

"Built by an accountant who runs his own household on it. A two-income household with pay schedules that don't line up, every bill, subscription, and planned expense — this template was built, broken, and rebuilt on real family finances. It isn't a pretty calculator; it's the tool I check before we spend money."

Questions

Do I need to connect my bank?
No. Nothing connects to anything. You type your balance in — that's the whole integration. Your financial data never leaves your own Google Drive.
Do I need to know spreadsheet formulas?
No. You only ever type into the amber input cells — names, dates, amounts. Everything else computes itself.
Does it work with my pay schedule?
Weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, or monthly — and multiple incomes on different schedules merge into one clean timeline. Bills can be any of six frequencies from weekly to annual.
How long does setup take?
About 30 minutes to enter your bills, income, and balance. After that, checking in takes about a minute, whenever you choose to do it.
Do I need to buy anything else?
No. Google Sheets is free. There's no premium tier, no add-on, no renewal.
What about Excel?
A courtesy .xlsx is included and the formulas are Excel-compatible, but Google Sheets is the supported version.
What if I have a problem?
